Resumo

Objetivo: Analisar os fatores associados ao óbito em idosos hospitalizados por COVID-19 em uma unidade de referência na Fronteira Oeste do Rio Grande do Sul. Método: Estudo documental, retrospectivo e quantitativo, realizado entre janeiro e março de 2021. Resultados: Foram incluídos 138 idosos, dos quais 36,9% evoluíram para óbito. A mortalidade apresentou associação significativa com o avançar da idade, com risco 2,93 vezes superior na faixa etária de 80 a 90 anos em relação ao grupo de 60 a 70 anos. Comorbidades, tabagismo e o sexo masculino configuraram pior prognóstico clínico. Conclusão: A senescência avançada, o tabagismo e o gênero masculino constituíram os principais fatores de risco para o desfecho fatal. Tais achados reiteram a necessidade de intervenções direcionadas para mitigar prognósticos desfavoráveis nesta população vulnerável.

I am a doctoral student in Science at the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG) and hold a Master's degree in Nursing from the Graduate Program at the Federal University of Santa Maria (2023). I am the Deputy Leader of the Study and Research Group on Human Aging at the Frontier (GEPESH-FRON), linked to the Federal University of Pampa. I have been conducting research focused on the development of technologies for various nursing scenarios, with an emphasis on creating innovative tools to support professionals in health care and education with the aim of helping to popularize science. Among the areas of greatest interest, I highlight technologies applied to Primary Health Care, digital health, mental health, human aging, advance directives, and care practices in the process of living and dying.

Gabriel Veiga Pedroso, Graduando em Medicina na Universidade Federal do Pampa

Gabriel Pedroso is a medical student at the Federal University of Pampa (UNIPAMPA), currently in his fourth semester. He holds certifications in basic and advanced information technology, as well as computer maintenance, from Homine Informática (2013). Currently, he serves as the Secretary of the League of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery (LACARDIO). Completed a Multiprofessional Integrated Residency Program in Hospital Management and Care at UFSM (2012), with a focus on Chronic-Degenerative Diseases. Holds a Master’s degree in Biomedical Gerontology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul - PUCRS (2012) and a Ph.D. from the School of Nursing at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul - UFRGS. Formerly a faculty member at Feevale University. Currently an Assistant Professor in the Nursing Department at the Federal University of Pampa (UNIPAMPA - Uruguaiana Campus). Extensive teaching experience in undergraduate and specialization programs, covering theoretical subjects such as Elderly Health, Public Policy, Urgent and Emergency Care, Surgical Centers, and Semiology.
