Abstract

Objective: To analyze the epidemiological profile of scorpionism in children, in the State of Pernambuco, in the years 2015 to 2019. Methods: This is an ecological, exploratory study, whose data were extracted from the Notifiable Diseases Information System (data sheets). notification completed from 2015 to 2019). Data analysis was performed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 20.0. Results: Between 2015 and 2019 there were 17,825 accidents involving scorpions in children up to 14 years old in the State of Pernambuco. The most affected age group was 5 to 9 years old (32.70%). Children from 0 to 4 years of age were twice as likely to have a severe clinical condition (p: <0.001; OR: 2.353; 95% CI: 1.650 - 4.782). Conclusion: There was a high rate of injuries in the analyzed period, especially in children at the beginning of school life, giving rise to more effective prevention measures.
