Objective: to identify the main factors related to thoracic complications after cardiac massage. Method: It consists of an integrative literature review. The Population, Interest and Context (PICo) strategy was used to construct the guiding question. Searches were carried out between the months of July to September 2021 in the Virtual Health Library (VHL), and databases: Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE), Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS) and in the US National Library of Medicine (NLM) PubMed service. After filtering, 250 articles were obtained which, after carefully reading the titles, abstracts and application of the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 10 studies were selected. Results: there are factors that interfere with the effectiveness of compression, which can compromise the individual's health. Conclusion: although cardiac massage has risks, it is essential to perform it in pre-hospital CPA care.
