Abstract

The high morbidity and mortality rate from trauma highlights the global need for preventive measures. Nurses should be prepared to perform basic and intermediate interventions in Pre-Hospital Care (PHC), utilizing the technical and scientific knowledge acquired during their academic training. Objective: To evaluate the knowledge of nursing students from a university in the Midwest of Santa Catarina regarding the care of polytrauma patients in the pre-hospital environment. Methods: The research took place in May 2023 through a realistic simulation of pre-hospital care, using a fictitious scenario of a polytrauma patient with the participation of actors, and utilizing the Trauma Standard Checklist in the pre- and post-test. Results: Differences in scores between the three teams were observed when comparing the pre- and post-tests. Conclusion: The findings of this study demonstrate that well-prepared realistic simulation scenarios can significantly impact students' learning and better prepare them for the job market.
