Nursing Care for Patients with a Feeding and Hydration Stoma: Integrative Review

Abstract

Objective: to verify the literature of health sciences and disease care for patients with feeding and hydration stomas. Methods: integrative review of literature constructed in six stages. In search of publications due in December 2023, in the databases of Latin American and
Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), Nursing Data Base (BDENF), Spanish Bibliographic Index in Health Sciences (IBECS) and Medline, by combining two descriptors “Gastrostomy”, “Jejunostomy”, “Nursing Care”, “Enfermagem” and “Patient Care”, with their derivatives in English and Spanish. The information is organized and summarized in a form constructed by the authors, with sick care categorized by semantic approximation. Results: the sample was composted by 21 publications. The data that emerged are categorized into device care, diet and medication administration, stoma and skin, complications, health education, patient care, psychoemotional and
social support, self-care, independence and adherence to treatment, and important aspects for to the health team. Conclusion: Faced with the complexity of the situation, it is understood that the nurse has a series of care, or that it must be organized in an organized manner and as a whole, given that the use of an ostomy affects both the individual and his family.
