Impacts of Realistic Simulation on the Development of Nursing Competencies: A Scoping Review Protocol

Abstract

Objective: To map the scientific evidence on the impacts of realistic simulation on the development of competencies in undergraduate nursing students. Method: This study will follow the guidelines of the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) for scoping reviews and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for scoping reviews (PRISMA-ScR). The databases to be searched include the Nursing Database (BDENF), Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), National Library of Medicine – National Institutes of Health (NIH), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), SciVerse Scopus, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), and Web of Science, accessed via the CAPES Periodicals Portal through the Federated Academic Community (CAFe). Data extraction will be performed independently by two reviewers using a standardized checklist, including information on publication characteristics, study design, participants, and main outcomes. The protocol was registered in the Open Science Framework (OSF) in 2026 (DOI: 10.17605/OSF.IO/3925F).
